Stranger Things 5 has returned with three more episodes that have us absolutely screaming over everything that is happening in and outside the Upside Down. But there's one member of the Hawkins crew that we've been waiting to see be reunited with the rest: Max. And with her being so close to finally escaping Vecna, it feels like she might have finally figured out the way back home. So did she officially make it out of Vecna's grasp?
Here's what happened to Max in Stranger Things 5.
Does Max finally wake up in Stranger Things 5?
With the power of Kate Bush and Holly Wheeler's help, Max was finally able to escape the nonstop memory loop that she was stuck in. Back in the real world, as Demogorgons went after her and Lucas who was carrying her, it came to be a real close call especially since Lucas was playing "Running Up That Hill" on a loop in order to make sure that she could come back.
In a surprise move, it was Karen Wheeler who pulled the ultimate move by blowing them up using a laundry dryer and a flammable canister.
Luckily, it gave Max enough time to make it out alive. However, she did have to leave Holly behind who had to find her own way back to the real world as each person is only able to escape via their own respective portals. Since each portal leads back to a specific person's body, they cannot use each other's portals to return to the real world.
Since Max was in a coma for nearly two years, she's unfortunately still very weak and is unable to join the crew in their fight against Vecna. But at least the very tearful and stunning reunion allowed her to be there before the big finale!
